ABOUT MONOLINE

Urban design and visual communication

Monoline makes designs for branding, shoot photos and drone videos, communicates strategies, creates campaigns, exhibitions and graphics in urban spaces – always with simple solutions that are focused and clearly communicate the message. ”Design that makes a difference in the urban landscape.”

THE URBAN LANDSCAPE
There are many factors to consider when working with design and communication in public space. Therefore it requires careful analysis to establish qualified results. Monoline has built a competence in making complete solutions centered on graphic and industrial design to communicate in the urban landscape.

Monoline works with urban spaces, and with a graphic and architectural professional background, we have the necessary understanding of urban spaces, architecture and planning that enables us to create simple solutions that clearly communicate the desired messages in interaction with the environment.

IT BEGINS WITH THE ANALYSIS
Before we find the right solution, we analyze and observe the concrete urban spaces. We investigate the possibilities of space-scale movement of light and human behavior and interaction with the environments other elements. It enables us to create the best designs in the urban landscape to the greatest benefit for end users – and with respect for the existing urban space.

We test our designs in 3D software, so you get a spatial experience of the solution before the project is launched. This approach provides a basis for a final dialogue and ensures that we find the optimal solution.

WORKING PROCESS MODEL

WE UNDERSTAND BICYCLE CULTURE
At Monoline we want to create a better approach to communicate with people through design and graphics. Mobility and movement in the city are keywords for us. It is therefore no coincidence we have created many solutions that are related to promoting a vibrant bicycle culture. Riding a bicycle offers the simple joy of the experience and also health benefits but the social benefits are even greater: less pollution, disease, and noise; reduced health care costs; Futhermore more cyclists mean that people are more present in the urban landscape, enriching public spaces.

EXPERIENCE IN A WORLD-CLASS CYCLING CITY
The City of Copenhagen is working hard to create better conditions for cyclists and make them aware of new initiatives. Monoline has played a significant role in the development of many cycling successes in the City of Copenhagen. Monoline projects include the following: I bike CPH, the Green Wave, the Bicycle Account, and the City of Copenhagen Bicycle Map.

STRONG NETWORK
Monoline is a small company with a large professional network. This enables us to offer complete solutions. The network consists of firms specializing in photography, advertising, web solutions, PR, writing, industrial design, architecture, traffic planning and bicycle culture. Monoline and many of our partners are part of the social community “Republikken” located in Copenhagen. We set up the best team for each specific task, and through good cooperation skills and project management, we deliver solid results.

GRAPHiCS IN URBAN SPACES
Monoline creates graphical solutions for the urban space. Projects may be permanent solutions or temporary installations. The above image shows street graphics  for the Green Wave for cyclists. When cyclists travel at  20 km/h they get all green traffic lights. One can experience the Green Wave on several of Copenhagen’s major streets.

BRANDING
At Monoline we have considerable experience in developing visual identities and brands for cities. A strong visual identity helps to make a city more visible to the outside world and builds a common self-perception for the city’s inhabitants.. Prior to the preparation of a strong logo is the analysis of core values and user analysis. The above image shows
’I bike CPH’ which we designed for the City of Copenhagen in connection with promotion of Copenhagen as a city of cyclists in an international context.

INFORMATION GRAPHICS
When we develop information graphics, we go for simple solutions that clearly communicate the appropriate messages. We put ourselves into the professional messages and transform them so that end-users understand the information. This example shows a map image from the City of Copenhagen’s ’Strategy for the Development of Medieval City’. Monoline developed the full visual line; we produced design and layout of publications, charts, maps and extensive photo documentation.

PHOTOGRAPHY
A good photograph often says more than words. Photography
constitutes a substantial part of Monoline’s tasks. Our reference catalogue contains photographs of urban life, architecture, portraits, events and observational documentary photography.
With training as professional architects our photographic work benefits through our observations of architecture, urban space and its users. When we develop complete graphic solutions, it is important to ensure the proper composition of photographs, so the correct story is told. This is a photo taken by Kalvebod Brygge in connection with documentation of life in Copenhagen Harbor.
